In July 2017, I was honored to be Artist-in-Residence at Homestead National Monument of America in Beatrice, Nebraska. It commemorates the Homestead Act of 1862, which gave most people 160 acres to farm the native prairie. This National Monument has the oldest restored tallgrass prairie in the National Park System. While in residence, I researched native plants and preformed a quadrat study on the prairie, then translated my findings into cyanotypes of the plants. My camera was always by my side as I captured the ever-changing landscape of delicate flowers, spider webs, tallgrasses, morning mists and bold sunsets.
The Beatrice Daily Sun published an article about my residency and presentation given to the public as outreach. The Park Rangers and dedicated staff welcomed me with open arms and were so supportive during my residency.
